About US

Hello, we are Ian and Ellie. We have lived and worked in the Kendal area for over 20 years. Ian works as a local handyman, and Ellie offers tutoring. Until recently Ellie worked as a teacher and was the Academic Deputy Head at a local independent school. She holds an enhanced DBS certificate. 

We aim to provide tailored and flexible help to individuals and families in South Lakeland, providing not just a service, but friendly and affordable help.  Further details on the services we can offer are listed below.

Services

Handyman/DIY Services

Ian offers a wide range of DIY and handyman services, including plastering, painting, carpentry (including furniture making) and painting, etc. Please ring if you have questions or would like further information.

Academic Tutoring

Ellie has taught for nearly 30 years and was the Academic Deputy head at a local independent school for 6 years. She has a record of helping students gain outstanding grades. Ellie specialises in working alongside teenagers to develop and hone their organisational and revision skills, and to ensure they understand what the examiners need them to do. She offers tutoring in revision/organisational skills, as well as English, Geography, Business Studies and Religious Studies.

Holiday Services

Are you going away? We can assist with house checks in your absence, feeding pets, walking dogs and watering plants.

Babysitting

Mia (18) and Amy (16) are available for babysitting.

Bike maintenance

Squeaky brakes? Malfunctioning gears? Bike looking tired and in need of a service? Let Ian sort it out for you.

Sewing and Alterations

Ian has a City and Guilds qualification and in another life he worked in the clothing industry. He is available for altering clothes, creating fancy dress costumes for children and making curtains, etc.

 Ian came to do a number of jobs around the house after we moved to our new home in Oxenholme. These ranged from putting up curtain rails and pictures to assembling a garden tool chest. He was prompt and efficient and his work was of high quality, all done in a friendly manner. We cannot rate Ian's work too highly.

 Ian made some beautiful shelves for our living room, one set using some old skis of ours and the other was a bespoke set for our TV corner. They look fab and impress everyone who sees them! He is very skilled and a real perfectionist. Ian also restored our original kitchen larder cupboard for us which looks amazing and works a treat with new added spice racks. So much nicer than a modern replacement. Ian also did some plastering for us in a tricky stairwell space which he did very expertly. I would highly recommend Ian for his skilled workmanship and his fab personality too😃

 We had a few jobs needing attention around the house. Ian was happy to fix them, arriving on the day/time agreed. Ian was meticulous in his work and finished everything to a high standard. He quietly got on with the jobs and made sure everything was fixed and tidy afterwards. Great work and a fair price .

 Ian came recommended by 2 separate people. He kept to agreed appointment times and was prompt with his timekeeping. He did lots of research for me to find the best solution for my attic door. He was efficient and very clean in the house. He kept me informed about how the work was progressing and how long it would take. He was entirely trustworthy and I was happy for him to work in the house when I was not there. I will most certainly book him to work for me again!

 I was delighted with the work that Ian did for me. All of the work was completed to the highest standard and in a very timely manner. Ian came up with suggestions and solutions that I had not even thought of. At each stage Ian communicated clearly so that I knew what to expect, how much it would cost, and when the work would be done. Ian also managed to repair work that a previous workman had not completed well! I was very pleased with everything that Ian did for me, and I will definitely call on his services again in the future.
